One week oldYesterday, our little guy turned one week old! My C-section was originally scheduled for today. Several times today, I kept thinking that I could have been pregnant a week longer and just now be meeting the baby. We are so grateful for our new little guy and so glad that he is healthy and we have had a nice week getting to know him.
Last Wednesday afternoon, we got the call from the OB that we were able to move up my C-section and scheduled it for Thursday afternoon-less that 24 hours later. We were so excited to be able to have the baby earlier but were definitely not ready. We still didn't have the baby's bed or other gear set up, we didn't have the hospital bag packed, etc. That night and Thursday morning were a whirlwind of getting all the last minute things ready. My parents arrived to watch Jack and Callie 10 minutes before Rob and I had to leave for the hospital.
When we arrived at the hospital, we were informed that my C-section was bumped by another woman who needed a C-section and was in active labor. We had to wait in the triage room for another 2 hours but we were in really good spirits and excited.
I have had two previous C-sections so I thought I was pretty familiar with the experience but this time was very different. When they finally took me back to the operating room, they started the anesthesia. In the past, the spinal anesthesia was one shot in the spine and was over in less than a minute so not that bad. This time, the anesthesiologist could not get the anesthesia in the right place. She kept sticking me over and over and injecting me with medicine but it was not working. I do not completely understand how the spinal works so I really do not know what the problem was but she kept saying she couldn't get in the right place on my spine but kept sticking me over and over to try. This went on for about 25 minutes and she stuck me about a dozen times. They also make you sit in this very uncomfortable curved back and chin to chest position and my neck and back muscles started cramping from sitting in that position for so long. At this point I start to worry that this lady is going to injure me or something is going to go wrong and it can not be good having her do the spinal over and over. She finally gives up and calls for another anesthesiologist to come and try. Now since I have had this done twice before without incident, I knew that it can be done without so much trouble and that it wasn't me like she kept saying(she told me the trouble was because I was on the smaller side and that my spine was slightly curved). The second anesthesologist came and got it on her second try. By this time, about 45 minutes had gone by which should have been only about 5 or less. I still have several sore needle marks all up and down my spine from her serveral attempts. I was not happy at this point and was so mad at the anesthesiologist for putting me through unneccessary pain. Finally, Rob gets to come in the room and has been wondering what took so long and is really surprised when he sees I am in tears and not happy. The anesthesia still wasn't the best because with the last two C-sections, I did not feel anything-no tugging or pulling that I know other people have exprienced. This time, I felt every tug and pull, I was extremely nauseous, and had huge crushing pains in my upper abdomen and chest. I was miserable and could barely pay attention to what was going on with the baby.
After they got me back to my room, I was happy to meet the baby and that the surgery was over. My parents brought Jack and Callie to the hospital that evening to meet the baby for the first time and they came each day I was there. My sisters also came and visited. I wish my time there was more enjoyable but I was sick most of the time. We stayed in the hospital through Saturday evening.

As far as names go, Rob and I again were hopeless. The records lady kept coming up to our hospital room asking for the name for the birth certificate and we had to send her away 3 times. I do not know why we have such trouble deciding on names but it is so permanent and none of the names seemed to click or jump out at us. We would decide on a name and then change our minds. Finally, we knew the records lady was coming only one more time on Saturday a few hours before we left and we knew we had to decide on something. Finally, Saturday morning, Rob was the decisive one again and chose a name that had been thrown out at the last minute. We officially named the baby Hudson Xavier Lambourne. We are still getting used to the name and calling him Hudson and I often call him Xavier. I remember it took me a few weeks to get used to Callie too.
So far, he is a sweet baby and still sleeps a lot during the day with a few awake periods. He is an ok sleeper at night and is getting better each night. The last few nights, he is sleeping in 3-4 hour stretches, eating, and then falling right back to sleep. We are still fine tuning his sleeping but we are not completely sleep deprived which I am so grateful for.
I am now having a relaxing recovery thanks to my Mom who is here taking care of Jack and Callie and I spend my day holding Hudson and just watching him. I love all this time I have to bond and enjoy him.
