Bugs, Baseball night, and Rob's Busy week

This week was Rob's year-end at work which means he had to work very late-some nights till after midnight--and he had to work today. I was not looking forward to this week at all and I am so glad that it is over. I feel very thankful that this is not a regular occurance because I know many other families who endure things like this more often and I admire those who do because it is not fun or easy being a single parent. I remember there were months like this when Rob worked for EY but things were a little easier than since I just had Jack but it makes me glad that we made the decision for Rob to leave public accounting.

Here is a recap of the highlights and some lowlights of the week:

On Tuesday, a friend from Jack's old playgroup invited us over to play which I really appreciated and it definitely helped break up the day. Recently, the days Jack is not in school have been very hard because I have not had the energy to keep the kids busy all day or take them many places and it is too hot to play outside for very long. They get very bored and end up arguing a lot and acting up. This makes me nervous about when school's out for the summer because things will not be any easier so soon after the baby is born.

On Friday, after dropping Jack off at school and going back to his school because I forgot his backpack and lunch at home, I discovered the bugs. There were tiny ants crawling all over the wall behind our bed, on the bed, over our end tables and Rob's dresser. So, instead of being able to rest which I was really looking forward to do after driving back and forth from Jack's school twice, I spent the rest of the morning washing the sheets and killing lots and lots of ants. Unfortunately, it seemed that for every 10 I killed, 20 more would soon appear. I finally gave up. Right now, the bugs are still just in our bedroom along the one wall and we are hoping they will not migrate to other parts of the house. The bugs have very strange timing since our pest guy just came and sprayed on Wednesday. We called them again but the soonest they could come back out was Monday so we are eargerly waiting for their help in this matter. This was definitely one of the moments of the week when I did not like facing this by myself and wished Rob would be home soon to help me solve the problem especially since I really really really hate bugs. So till Monday(hopefully something will be resolved by then), we are sleeping out on our sofa bed(not very comfortable especially being 9 months pregnant). Rob did spend a lot of time tonight trying to figure out where they are coming from, vacuuming, deep cleaning everything, and killing many more tiny ants but we need to wait and see if they decide to show up again.

Back to Friday......
After not the most relaxing morning, we went up to the church to help set up for the Primary Activity. Afterwards, knowing Rob would not be home till after midnight and not feeling at all like cooking, I decided to stop by Chik-fil-A (or ChickenDonalds as Callie calls it) to get dinner. It just so happened that night at our local Chik-fil-a was Baseball night. This did not mean much except that there was a local college baseball team walking around with their schedule and signing autographs. About half way through the evening, they did a game of baseball bingo. Jack was very excited to play and Callie just picked up a bingo card because Jack did. Well, this game showed me that Callie must have inherited Rob's luck and unfortunately Jack mabe has mine. When Rob and I were dating, I discovered that Rob was incredibly lucky. Every drawing or contest Rob entered(and for some reason the Accounting department had many), Rob would always win something. It became almost a given that Rob would win and not even surprising. Unfortunately, at this stage in our lives, none of the contests were ever for really big prizes but it was fun to always see him win. I, on the other hand, have never been lucky and never won anything. After we were married, Rob's luck seemed to change to normal luck. I always joke that since he married me who is not lucky that his luck had neutralized. Back to Callie, I was helping her mark her bingo card and almost every picture the announcer called, Callie had. The first prize was for the local baseball team's T-shirt for the first bingo. Well, Callie got bingo pretty quickly and won the adult size T-shirt. When I told her she had bingo, she ran up to the front all by herself and told the announcer and was very excited about her T-shirt. Then the next prize, was for the team's cap for whoever filled up there whole bingo card first. Well, guess who out of all the kids in there filled up there card first--Callie again. She again ran to the front by herself very excited to accept her next prize. They did end up giving out a few more T-shirts to other kids who reached bingo but the whole time and after the announcer went through calling many pictures, Jack only filled three spaces on his card. I felt bad for Jack especially since he had a very hard time understanding why Callie was getting all this stuff and he wasn't. After awhile, he seemed to feel better about it especially after we traded in his kids meal toy for ice cream. Callie was a very appreciative and gracious winner and immediately wanted to wear both the shirt and cap and did for quite awhile. All in all , it was a fun evening and the kids had a fun time playing and eating out. We all wished that Rob had been with us. Then, we came home and all fell asleep on the sofa bed watching Monster's Inc.

Saturday, we were up early and went to the church for the Primary activity. For the activity, we had different stations based on parts of the Friend magazine. It went well and we had a better turnout than expected and especially with everything that is currently going on in the lives of us in the Presidency, I think it was very successful. Rob did have to work this morning but he was done in the afternoon and we met him at Chevy's for lunch and Coldstone for dessert. It was a fun way to end his busy week and spend time with him again.

This week must have worn out Jack because he fell asleep shortly after we got home and rarely takes naps anymore. Callie our energizer bunny kept going and wanted to play with Jack awake or asleep. I thought it was so funny when I walked in and she had put the puppet on Jack's hand and was talking her puppet with his all while he was sleeping.

Memorial Day Weekend, Nesting, Etc.

I really enjoyed this Memorial weekend because it helped satisfy the Nesting insticts that have been plagueing me for the last few weeks. It is frustrating because I have little energy and I can not do a lot of work that I want to get done myself and have to rely on others to get big jobs done. Rob has been a great sport and I think he has caught a little bit of the nesting bug himself because in the last few weeks we have been able to go through and mostly organize our entire home. We have been through every drawer, closet, etc and thrown out and donated bags and bags of stuff. Rob even held a garage sale a few weeks ago during our community sale almost completely by himself because we had so much to get rid of.
So this weekend, we were able to finally finish the home organization we started last month and get out all the baby stuff. It is so nice to have the house organized before the baby comes and now we can fill up all the extra space with food storage which is the next project we need to work on.
While Rob and I spent our weekend at home working, my parents were in town to entertain the kids. On Friday, we met Rob at Bahama Breeze for dinner and were also joined by my sister Nancy. It was a great way to start off the weekend. Saturday, Grandma and Grandpa played with the kids outside where they enjoyed the sprinklers with their friends next door and ate pizza for lunch.
After lunch, the grandparents took the kids to an indoor inflatable play gym and Grandma gave Callie a summer haircut.

That night they made homemade ice cream with Grandpa and they loved helping add the ice and salt.
On Sunday, we enjoyed a nice quiet day after church and for dinner tried Oprah's favorite turkey burger recipe(we were not impressed--Rob's are much better) and the best corn on the cob that we bought on Saturday from a local nursery. Monday, Rob and I finished our projects and Grandma and Grandpa took the kids to get some vegetable plants and planted them in pots on the back porch. Gardening is Jack's new hobby and he is so good at remembering to water the plants outside every day when previously they were neglected. This weekend was also a great time for us to get help eating up all our cereal. We had 28 boxes of cereal in our pantry probably due to Rob's weakness for cereal and Buy 1 Get 1 free deals but most of them had been opened. I think we are now down to 23 thanks to the Grandparents and them taking some home.

In other news, Rob recently picked up Callie's dance recital costume. Callie was in dance class since last August but, when I was put on bedrest, she was missing all the classes because she spent weeks away at Grandma's or other's homes and we could not get her there so we had to drop out especially since we had no clue when I would be able to start taking her again. Unfortunately, we had already paid for the dance recital costume and could not be refunded. When the costume came in last week, they called us to come pick it up. Callie, of coarse, loves it and it will now be a very expensive dress up outfit. Hopefully, she can start dance again in the Fall.

Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day to all the wonderful Mothers I know and I hope you all had a relaxing and fun day with your families.

Rob and the kids gave me a wonderful Mother's day. Jack and Callie woke me up by bringing me cards they made me. Then they helped Rob make me waffles, turkey bacon, and strawberries and brought me breakfast in bed and ate in bed with me. Rob also made lunch and dinner and then the kids helped Rob make his yummy cookies for me. I love being a Mom and they helped make me feel very appreciated.

Since it is Mother's day, I have decided now is a good day to finally announce on our blog that I am pregnant. I am 33 weeks along and will have a scheduled C-section in mid/late June. I know that some of you who we keep in touch by blog might be shocked by the news espcially this far along so I am sorry for leaving you out or maybe you suspected something due to my infrequent blogging. I have always been one of those people who waits to tell anyone including family till at least 12 weeks and then sometimes try and stretch it longer if I am not showing yet. First, I had horrible morning sickness for all of November and December and stayed in bed whenever I could. Then at 15 weeks, about 1 week after we finally told family and local friends and the first week my morning sickness was pretty much over, I was put on strict bedrest. My cervix started thinning and shortening so I was only allowed to get up to go to the bathroom and to my weekly doctor's appointments. I did not have any problems with my last two pregnancies so this was very unexpected. I was on bedrest for the next 12 weeks. I then started having FFN tests which I continue to have and as long as they come back negative, I have been allowed to do more and more and am not confined to my bed. I am however exhausted all the time and being in bed for so long has really drained my strength and energy. While on bedrest, I did not want to blog about things because we were just taking things day by day and I think a part of me felt it was easier to not think about it too much and stay slightly in denial because things were scary for awhile and that for me meant not blogging. Within the last few weeks, things are looking really good and I can finally let myself get excited and not be worried about it all the time. So I finally can let myself officially put it into print.
Being on strict bedrest for so long was a huge challenge. I spent Rob's bday, Easter, and Callie's bday completely in bed. I missed almost 3 months of life. I watched too much TV that now I don't like to watch it as much anymore. I did read a few books but TV kept my mind off the pregnancy more. Our families helped as much as they could watching Jack and Callie. Other times, we had to rely on the Ward members and friends to take Jack to school and watch the kids while Rob was at work. We had a lot of wonderful people who helped us during that time. I think the hardest thing was not being able to take care of my own children. Rob was really great during all this even though I could tell he was really stressed out. One positive thing about being on bedrest was the time I got to spend with Jack and Callie. I think before sometimes I was so busy around the house, with my calling, etc that I didn't take enough time to just play with them and not have 50 things on my mind that I wanted to get done. They would spend a lot of time in bed with me and I could devote all my attention to them and not have to worry about getting anything done or limit my time I spent playing with them. We read books, played computer games, played with their toys and talked. It really made me appreciate the time we spent together and enjoy their personalities. It made me want to, in the future, be less concerned about the things I need to get done and stop and spend more time playing with them.
Now we are looking ahead and spending this time finally getting ready for the new baby. I am now stressed out that there is only about 6 weeks to go and we have a lot to do to prepare. It is also sinking in that we are going to have 3 kids and how are we going to handle it. This is mainly my thought when both Jack and Callie start to act up at the same time especially in public and I think where would the baby be in all this chaos. However, even though I am a little worried about the transition of having a newborn again and having three kids, we are all very excited to have a new person join our family.
From now on, I will try harder to not be such a stranger to my blog and keep everyone posted on what is going on in our lives and now that I am off bedrest maybe I will have more pictures and stuff to blog about as well.
